16-Year-Old Brazilian Athlete Qualifies for Obstacle Course Racing World Championship in Ireland

Isabelly Fernanda Fabri Sueiro, a 16-year-old athlete from Itapetininga, São Paulo, has earned a spot in the Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Championship in Limerick, Ireland, on August 9th. Her qualification came after she secured first place in the youth category at the Pan-American Championship held in Salvador, Bahia. This event marked her first time competing in a 12-kilometer race featuring approximately 40 obstacles. Sueiro's passion for OCR was ignited by her father, who also participates in the sport. She views her current success as just the beginning of her athletic journey, aiming to continuously improve, represent Brazil internationally, and contribute to the sport's growth. OCR, a demanding discipline combining running with natural and artificial obstacles, requires significant physical endurance, strength, agility, balance, and mental fortitude. It is often compared to military training due to its challenging nature. Sueiro is balancing her rigorous training schedule with her studies, currently pursuing her second year of high school and a technical course in systems development. She emphasizes the need for organization, discipline, and commitment to manage her demanding routine. Her journey in official competitions began earlier this year, with her initial goal being to qualify for the Pan-American Championship, a feat she achieved by winning her first official race. The Pan-American Championship presented a significant challenge, being her first long-distance race of this difficulty, but she ultimately won by approximately 50 minutes. Despite the excitement of qualifying for the World Championship, Sueiro faces financial challenges in funding her trip to Ireland, but she is actively seeking solutions. She aspires to compete in future Pan-American and World Championships and eventually participate in major international OCR events, while also aiming to popularize the sport in Brazil.
