3-Year-Old Dies After Being Struck by Unlicensed Driver in Greater Belo Horizonte

A three-year-old child tragically died on Friday, November 17th, after being hit by a car in Nova Lima, part of the Greater Belo Horizonte metropolitan area. The driver, a 22-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene and is suspected of negligent homicide, as she did not possess a National Driver's License (CNH). The child's uncle, aged 50, who was also in the vehicle and is himself unlicensed, was arrested for allowing an unlicensed person to drive. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM in the Balneário Água Limpa neighborhood. The child's mother reported that she was waiting with her three-year-old son for his older sibling at a school bus stop when the car veered off the main road, mounted the curb, and struck the child before colliding with a parked vehicle. Bystanders had to lift the car to free the child, who was then transported by emergency services to a company treatment center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver told police she had only recently learned to drive but lacked any authorization or license. She reportedly attempted to flee the scene after the accident but was prevented by onlookers. The vehicle, a car owned by the driver's uncle, was impounded as no licensed custodian was present. Both the driver and the car's owner were taken to a local health facility for breathalyzer tests, which were negative for alcohol, before being transferred to the police station with legal representation.
