Alagoas Court Orders Bank Records Unsealed for Officer Accused of Killing Colleagues

A court in Alagoas, Brazil, has authorized the unsealing of the bank and financial records of civil police officer Gildate Goes Moraes Sobrinho, aged 61. He is accused of murdering two colleagues, Yago Gomes Pereira, 33, and Denivaldo Jardel Lira Moraes, 47, inside a police vehicle in Delmiro Gouveia. The incident occurred on the morning of May 20th as the officers were returning from an assignment. Investigations suggest Sobrinho fired the shots that killed Pereira and Moraes. He was arrested at his home shortly after the crime. The court's decision mandates an analysis of Sobrinho's accounts and any potentially linked suspicious accounts. The scope of the unsealing covers the three months preceding the crime and the month following it. This measure aims to uncover any financial or economic motives behind the double homicide by identifying unusual money movements, atypical transfers, or large transactions. The Central Bank will be responsible for notifying financial institutions where Sobrinho held accounts during the investigated period. The court has also officially accepted the indictment presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Alagoas against Sobrinho for two counts of qualified homicide. His defense team has ten days to respond to the charges.
