Armed Robber Tackles Woman to Steal Phone in São Paulo

Two women were victims of an armed robbery on Wednesday morning, November 22nd, in the Vila Olímpia neighborhood of São Paulo's South Zone. Security camera footage captured the moment a male assailant, armed with a gun, pursued one of the victims, knocked her to the ground, and stole her belongings. The video shows the two friends walking and talking on the sidewalk when they approached two motorcyclists who had just parked. One of the motorcyclists then stood up, pointed a weapon at the women, and announced the robbery. One victim attempted to flee by running into the street but was chased by the perpetrator, who caught her, grabbed her by the shoulder, and threw her to the ground. He then took her bag and returned to collect the belongings of the second woman, who remained stationary with her hands raised throughout the incident. Both assailants fled on their motorcycles. The crime, which occurred around 10:40 AM, resulted in the theft of two cell phones, a tablet, and bank cards. The incident has been registered as a robbery and is under investigation by the 15th Police District (Itaim Bibi). The Secretariat of Public Security stated that efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators and clarify the facts. Data from the Secretariat indicates that the local police station recorded 534 robberies between January and May of this year, averaging approximately three cases daily, a slight decrease from the 550 occurrences reported in the same period last year.
