Brazil's Revenue Service Launches App to Speed Up Customs Declarations for Travelers

The Brazilian Federal Revenue Service has introduced a new application designed to streamline the process for travelers entering Brazil who need to declare goods. This electronic declaration system, known as e-DBV, aims to automatically register some declarations based on the Revenue Service's risk management criteria as soon as a passenger lands. In such instances, travelers can proceed directly to disembarkation without needing in-person customs checks. This new procedure applies to air passengers who complete the declaration via the app before arriving in national territory. Travelers are still required to file the e-DBV if they are subject to declaring goods according to current regulations. The system analyzes the submitted information to determine if the declaration can be automatically registered or if it requires further inspection. Declarations not eligible for automatic registration will continue to follow standard customs control procedures, with the app guiding the traveler on the next steps. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize baggage clearance processes, allowing customs officials to focus their attention on cases requiring more in-depth analysis. The Revenue Service emphasizes that this change does not diminish its inspection authority, as it retains the power to review declarations, collect taxes, and implement legal measures as needed.
