Brazilian 'Berranteiro' Completes 3-Year Americas Journey on Mules

Pedro Henrique Biondo Matias, known as the 'Berranteiro das Américas,' has concluded an epic three-year journey across the Americas, traveling approximately 60,000 kilometers through 16 countries. Initially embarking on his adventure in a modified pickup truck with his dog, Bastião, Matias decided to return to Brazil mounted on two mules, Ada and Oklahoma. This unconventional return honors the traditions of old cowboys and drovers who traversed the continent on horseback and muleback. Matias, a former civil engineer from Orindiúva, São Paulo, left a stable career to pursue his dream of exploring the continent and upholding rural Brazilian heritage. His journey, which began on August 28, 2023, saw him gain over a million followers on social media. The return trip, which started in October 2024, covered 10,000 kilometers, with the mules traveling a maximum of 30 kilometers per day to ensure their well-being. The final leg of his expedition will culminate at the Festa do Peão de Barretos, the largest rodeo in Latin America. Matias emphasized the personal transformation the journey brought, fostering humility and a deeper appreciation for human connection and mutual aid. He also shared the bittersweet experience of nearing the end of his trip without his grandfather, who passed away two months prior. The expedition was funded through sponsorships, donations, raffles, and online sales, with support from friends like veterinarian Gustavo Paloni, who helped manage the animals and supplies during the return trip.
