Campinas Council Schedules Hearing for Councilor Vini Oliveira in Improbity Probe

The Campinas City Council has scheduled hearings for Councilor Vini Oliveira (Cidadania) on August 3 and 4 as part of an administrative improbity investigation. The Process Commission investigating the case has also requested evidence sharing from the Public Prosecutor's Office's specialized organized crime unit (Gaeco). Oliveira is under scrutiny following the release of a video showing him at a public transport company less than a month after the service concession auction. The complaint alleges political-administrative misconduct, which could lead to the revocation of his mandate. The commission plans to hear from six witnesses designated by the accuser, Councilor Mariana Conti (PSOL), on August 3. The following day, August 4, will feature testimony from defense witnesses and Councilor Oliveira himself. All hearings are set to take place in the council's Plenarinho chamber. The commission has also inquired with the Public Prosecutor's Office about any necessary judicial authorization for evidence sharing and potential restrictions on public access to the shared materials. The opening of the Process Commission was unanimously approved by the council on June 1. The complaint details Oliveira's alleged presence at a transport company, participation in a meeting, and departure with unspecified items. The commission members, selected by lottery, include Otto Alejandro as rapporteur, Paulo Haddad as president, and Dr. Yanko. The initial investigation period is set at 90 days, with the potential to recommend either dismissal or mandate revocation, which would require a two-thirds majority vote from the 33 councilors.
