Campo Verde Transforms Cotton into Mato Grosso's Textile Hub

Campo Verde, a 38-year-old municipality in Mato Grosso, has emerged as a leading textile center by diversifying beyond agriculture. The city has developed a complete cotton production chain, extending from fiber to yarn, which is driving industrialization, creating jobs, and stimulating the local economy. This strategic shift has positioned Campo Verde as a significant player in Mato Grosso's economic growth cycle.

Since 2022, the municipality has actively promoted its industrial capacity as a textile hub to national and international markets. Campo Verde now boasts 16 cotton processing plants and two large spinning mills, producing approximately 3,500 tons of cotton yarn monthly. These advancements will be showcased at the 4th Fiber to Yarn Tour from August 5-7, highlighting local industrial progress. Mato Grosso produces about 70% of Brazil's cotton, but historically, only around 5% was processed within the state. Campo Verde's focus on verticalization adds value to the raw material and strengthens regional industry, with its yarn production noted for high quality, strength, and length.

The economic impact is substantial, with the city's GDP more than doubling from just over R$2 billion to over R$5 billion. This growth is supported by investments in logistics infrastructure and public policies focusing on education, professional training, security, housing, and sustainability. Campo Verde has received recognition for its literacy programs and is noted for its urban surveillance system, contributing to public safety. The city has also expanded access to housing programs. Furthermore, Campo Verde operates the state's only municipal sanitary landfill, demonstrating a commitment to balancing economic development with environmental responsibility. The municipality will also host the 2nd Campo Verde Fashion Week on August 7-8, reinforcing the "From Fiber to Yarn" initiative and showcasing the value-added industrialization of cotton.
