Car runs red light, collides with UFU bus carrying 20 students in Uberlândia

A collision occurred on Friday morning, May 17th, in Uberlândia, Brazil, when a car ran a red light and was struck by a bus belonging to the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). The UFU bus, identified as part of the "Intercampi" service that transports students between campuses, was carrying 20 students at the time of the incident. The accident took place around 7 AM at the intersection of Cesário Alvim Avenue and Antônio Crescêncio Street in the Aparecida neighborhood. According to the university's Transportation Division (Ditra), the car disregarded the red signal, leading to the crash. Fortunately, no one on the bus sustained injuries. The car, after being hit on its side by the bus, spun out and came to a stop against a utility pole on the opposite side of the avenue. Security camera footage captured the moment of the collision. The UFU reported that the incident did not disrupt the Intercampi service, as a replacement bus was promptly provided by the contracted company. The university also stated that the maintenance of its transportation fleet is up-to-date, adhering to contractual and scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance requirements. Emergency services, including the Fire Department and Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), were not called to the scene, and the Military Police had not yet responded at the time of reporting.
