Cauã Reymond's 'Risk Play' Series Explores Football's Risqué Underbelly

Brazilian actor Cauã Reymond describes his new Globoplay series, 'Jogada de Risco' (Risk Play), as "the forbidden side of football," highlighting its exploration of sex, parties, and doping. The series, which premiered on September 23rd, delves into the behind-the-scenes world of professional football, examining themes such as million-dollar deals, power dynamics, ethics, homosexuality, and mental health. Reymond, who is also the project's conceptualizer, stated that the show was intentionally marketed to showcase these taboo aspects, reflecting a curiosity about the less glamorous realities of the sport. He conducted extensive research, interviewing agents, coaches, executives, press officers, and players, to capture an authentic portrayal inspired by real-world situations, though not based on specific events. Reymond confirmed that while much of the information was a confirmation of existing knowledge for him, a few subjects did elicit surprise. He developed strong trust with his sources, requesting anonymity for real-life individuals to focus on the narrative. Notably, a controversial scene involving a penis sheath, performed by Bruna Griphao and Juan Paiva, was Reymond's own idea to create impact, and he later learned it mirrored a habit among some real players. Despite the intense production, Reymond assures he has no plans to abandon his acting career, which he loves, even as he expands his roles as an entrepreneur and producer. Interestingly, Reymond himself was not a football enthusiast growing up, recalling being picked last for games and preferring sports like basketball.
