Cell Phone Fire Destroys Bedroom in Bahia, Brazil

A house in Morpará, Bahia, Brazil, was partially destroyed by a fire that originated from a cell phone charging on a bed. The incident occurred early Saturday morning, August 1st, and fortunately, no one was injured. Almir Farias dos Santos, the 51-year-old homeowner, was asleep when the fire began around 1 AM. He had left his cell phone charging beside him on the bed. Upon waking, he discovered the phone engulfed in flames, which had already spread to a significant portion of the bedroom. The bed where he was sleeping was also alight when he awoke. Images from the scene show the bed completely destroyed and the bedroom walls blackened by the fire. The homeowner managed to extinguish the fire himself using buckets of water, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the house. The incident was not reported to the police. Santos lost most of his bedroom furniture and was left shaken by the event, now focusing on reorganizing his home. Military firefighter Pablo Vieira advised citizens to avoid charging devices on flammable surfaces like fabrics and foam, and to use Anatel-certified chargers. He also recommended monitoring device temperature during charging and avoiding cell phone use while charging.
