Child narrowly avoids being hit as car rolls down Recife street

A young boy in Recife, Brazil, narrowly escaped serious injury on Tuesday, May 21st, when a car rolled down a steep street in the Água Fria neighborhood. The incident occurred on Rua da Vitória in the Alto do Pascoal community. Security camera footage captured the moment the child, standing in the street, was nearly struck by the runaway vehicle. The car, which had been parked, began to slide down the incline and eventually collided with the wall of a barbershop. Witnesses reported that the car's owner, a customer at the barbershop, had forgotten to engage the handbrake. He was seen attempting to stop the vehicle with his foot as it began to descend. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The video shows the boy, distracted while talking to someone, standing in the middle of the road. As the car slid towards him, a shout alerted him, and he managed to run to safety just before the vehicle passed. The owner's attempt to halt the car proved unsuccessful as it veered left and struck the barbershop wall. The owner of the barbershop confirmed that the driver had not secured the vehicle with the handbrake, mistakenly believing a speed bump would prevent it from rolling. The car sustained damage, and the barbershop wall was also affected, though no significant harm was reported.
