Churro Vendors Struck by Car in Franca, Brazil; Suspect Arrested

In Franca, São Paulo, Brazil, a churro-selling couple, Irislene Macedo, 55, and Márcio de Souza, 39, were intentionally struck by a vehicle driven by a local bar owner. Irislene remains in serious condition at Santa Casa hospital, awaiting surgery, having suffered a head injury and confusion. Márcio sustained leg injuries but is out of danger. Their churro cart was destroyed in the incident, which occurred on the evening of July 21st in the central parking lot of Avenida Chico Júlio. The suspect, bar owner Wanderson da Costa Silva, 43, is accused of deliberately running over the couple. He claims they reported his bar to the Health Surveillance agency, leading to its closure in June. The bar, which lacked a permit to operate, was shut down for public disturbance, unauthorized shows, street closure, and irregular use of public space. Wanderson was arrested on July 22nd and is being held preventively, facing charges of attempted homicide with a frivolous motive. He initially confronted the couple, accusing them of the denunciation before the attack. Security footage shows the vehicle deliberately hitting the cart and then the couple. A passenger in the suspect's vehicle also confronted Irislene after the incident, claiming to have proof of the denunciation. Wanderson has previously expressed on social media that he felt persecuted by neighbors after his bar was closed.
