Communities near Curuá-Una Dam participate in safety drills in Santarém

Residents in areas near the Curuá-Una Hydroelectric Power Plant in Santarém, western Pará, will participate in community dam safety drills on July 29 and 30. This preventive action is being conducted by AXIA Energia in collaboration with municipal and state civil defense agencies. The practical training will take place in the Self-Rescue Zone, an area located directly below the dam. Prior to the drills, on July 27 and 28, identified teams will visit local households to update family registrations and provide guidance on evacuation routes. According to the company managing the dam, this initiative aligns with the National Policy on Dam Safety and aims to enhance prevention efforts. The hydroelectric plant is operating normally and is under continuous technical monitoring. The practical simulations will occur at specific points within the Santa Rita, Betel, and Moriá communities, offering direct instructions to residents about the alert system. Residents who are not home during the visits will receive a letter with instructions for later registration. The community safety exercises for the Curuá-Una UHE will be spread across four meeting points serving different localities below the dam. On the afternoon of July 29, exercises will be held in the Santa Rita Community. On the morning of July 30, training will take place in the Betel and Moriá communities.
