Couple Arrested for Bus Robbery in São Luís

A man and a woman were apprehended by the Military Police (PM) in São Luís on Monday night, August 6th, for allegedly robbing a public bus. The incident occurred on Avenida Jerônimo de Albuquerque, near a supermarket. A police officer, off-duty and traveling by motorcycle, noticed the bus moving slowly with its internal lights off, despite having passengers. He observed a passenger attempting to exit through a window and then witnessed the driver being threatened by the couple. The male suspect brandished a knife to intimidate the driver. The officer identified himself and ordered the bus to stop. Although the driver initially struggled to comply due to the threats, the bus eventually halted. The suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended by the officer, who also prevented them from being attacked by bystanders. Support from the 20th Military Police Battalion (20º BPM) was called to the scene. During the apprehension, authorities recovered a stolen cell phone, the knife used in the robbery, and approximately R$95 in cash, believed to be the bus's earnings. Both the driver and passengers identified the couple as the perpetrators, and the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime. The couple and the seized items were taken to the Cohatrac Central Police Station. During the processing of the case, it was discovered that there was an active arrest warrant for the bus driver.
