Couple found buried in São Vicente, Brazil, nine days after disappearing

Ieda Aparecida Simplicio, 62, and Fabiana de Fátima Nogueira, 47, have been found dead and buried in a wooded area in São Vicente, São Paulo state, Brazil. The couple, who were in a relationship, disappeared nine days prior on the evening of May 9th after leaving a friend's house in Praia Grande. They had told the friend and Fabiana's older sister that they were going out to "resolve some things" before returning home. Their car was discovered abandoned and unlocked near the Praia Grande Detention Center on May 11th, containing personal belongings and one of their cell phones. The bodies, found in an advanced state of decomposition, were identified by family members who accompanied the search efforts by the Fire Department on Saturday, May 18th. A partial human skull was also found in the same grave and will undergo forensic analysis to determine its identity. The advanced decomposition prevented immediate determination of the cause of death at the scene, and autopsies will be conducted. The disappearance was noted on May 10th when the women failed to show up for their app-based delivery jobs, and their phones were unreachable. The family reported the incident to the police, and the investigation is ongoing.
