Court Drops Case Against Juliana Brizola Over Alleged Misappropriation of Grandmother's Funds

A legal process against Juliana Brizola, a former state representative and pre-candidate for governor in Rio Grande do Sul, has been dismissed by the state's judiciary. The case, initiated by a criminal complaint, involved allegations that Brizola misappropriated funds from her 99-year-old grandmother, Dóris Daudt. The investigation began after Brizola's uncle, Alfredo Daudt Júnior, took over legal responsibility for his mother for approximately one month. During this period, he observed that the elderly woman's bank account was overdrawn by R$ 44,000, despite her having received a R$ 1.8 million indemnity payment and a monthly pension of R$ 25,000. However, the court determined that the questioned financial transfers were recognized as advances on inheritance and were properly settled during the estate's inventory process. Furthermore, the court found that any bank loans taken were fully assumed by Juliana Brizola. The prosecutor's office requested the dismissal, and the victim's legal representative subsequently expressed agreement with Brizola's accounting and did not oppose the closure of the police inquiry. Brizola celebrated the decision, stating it definitively ends the matter and that her grandmother's memory was used as a political weapon against her.
