Cuiabá City Council Rejects 2027 Budget Guidelines, Postponing Recess

The Cuiabá Municipal Chamber has rejected the proposed Bill for the 2027 Budgetary Guidelines (LDO) on Thursday, May 16th. The proposal garnered 12 votes in favor but fell short of the 14 votes required for absolute majority approval, as mandated by law. Consequently, the parliamentary recess, originally scheduled to begin, will not commence. The city councilors are required to remain in session until the Cuiabá City Hall submits a new LDO proposal for review and voting, in accordance with the Chamber's Internal Regulations. Chamber President, councilwoman Paula Calil (PL), stated that the legislative body is prepared to analyze the revised text once it is sent by the executive branch. She emphasized the Chamber's institutional role and commitment to a responsible, transparent, and legally compliant process. In response, the Cuiabá City Hall issued a statement indicating that its technical and legal teams are assessing the necessary steps to ensure the budgetary process continues. A new text is expected to be drafted and submitted to the Chamber in the coming days, adhering to legal timelines and procedures. The municipal administration reiterated its dedication to fiscal responsibility, public account balance, and the continuity of public policies and services for its citizens. The LDO serves to define the municipal administration's goals and priorities for the subsequent year, guiding the preparation of the Annual Budget Law (LOA), which forecasts revenues and allocates public funds.
