Deutsche Bahn Security Guard Critically Injured After Falling From Moving Train During Altercation

A 26-year-old security guard employed by Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national railway company, sustained severe injuries yesterday after falling from a moving train during an altercation with a passenger. The regional train was traveling at approximately 120 kilometers per hour from Offenburg to Karlsruhe in southwestern Germany when the incident occurred, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office, as reported by DPA news agency. The guard and a colleague had responded to a report of a disturbance involving a presumably intoxicated passenger during a ticket inspection. The passenger allegedly insulted the two guards, leading to a physical confrontation. During this struggle, the security guard fell against a train door, which was reportedly ripped from its hinges; the exact circumstances of this are under investigation.

The severely injured railway employee was discovered on the tracks during an extensive search operation, approximately 2 kilometers past the point where the train eventually stopped. He is currently in critical condition in the hospital, with the Public Prosecutor's Office withholding further details due to privacy concerns. The 36-year-old passenger involved in the confrontation has been arrested and is in custody. The German railway union EVG expressed outrage over the incident, with chairman Manuel Amberger stating it demonstrates that verbal and physical assaults on train personnel have reached a new, life-threatening dimension.
