Dr. Marie Solange Ndom Awarded African Excellence Prize for Health Governance

Dr. Marie Solange Ndom, the first female Director General of the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, Cameroon, has been honored with the African Excellence Prize for Health Governance. The prestigious award was presented by the Pan-African Media Convention (CPM) on June 24, 2026, during a ceremony at the hospital. The CPM, an organization comprising approximately sixty media outlets across the continent, recognized Dr. Ndom for her leadership, professionalism, humanism, and welcoming approach. She has held the position of Director General since late 2024. The jury's decision was influenced by the significant positive changes observed at the Laquintinie Hospital under her governance, attributing these improvements to effective management and the dedication of the hospital's 1,650 employees. CPM President Gamal Machia presented Dr. Ndom with a plaque and a trophy, commending her "responsible governance" and acknowledging the team's efforts in implementing administrative directives. Dr. Ndom, who has a distinguished career path from medical advisor to renowned cardiologist before leading the 95-year-old institution, accepted the award with humility and gratitude. She dedicated the prize to her staff, emphasizing their collective commitment to patient satisfaction and continuous improvement in service quality. Her work aligns with the national health vision, as promoted by President Paul Biya and the Minister of Public Health, Malachie Manaouda.
