Elderly Man Found Dead in Santa Catarina Home After Family Reports Disappearance

Authorities in Lages, Santa Catarina, are investigating the death of an 83-year-old man, suspected to be a case of latrocínio (robbery followed by death). The victim was discovered after a family member became concerned about a lack of contact and visited his home. Upon arrival, the relative found the house in disarray, with signs of forced entry and rooms ransacked. The family member alerted the Military Police, who subsequently entered the residence. Officers had to force open a bedroom door to access the victim, who was found deceased. Initial forensic examination indicated signs of physical violence. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and while the exact time of death is pending a necropsy, it is informally estimated to be three to four days prior to discovery. Several items, including a television, radio, and gas cylinder, were reported missing from the residence, suggesting a robbery motive.
