Elderly Man Shot While Trying to Stop Grandson's Motorcycle Theft in Goiana

An elderly man, 76, was shot in the neck on Sunday afternoon in Goiana, Pernambuco, Brazil, while attempting to prevent the theft of his 22-year-old grandson's motorcycle. The incident occurred around 3 PM in the Centro district, specifically at Loteamento João Francisco, number 1. Security camera footage captured two assailants arriving on a motorcycle. The victim intervened by shouting when he saw them about to steal the parked motorcycle. One of the assailants then shot the elderly man, who was hit superficially. The assailants managed to escape with the stolen motorcycle. The grandson, who appeared at the top of the house where the motorcycle was parked, was also shot at by one of the robbers but was not hit. The crime took place on a street where many children were playing, who scattered and sought shelter due to the gunshots. The identities of the victims and the hospital where the elderly man was taken have not been disclosed, making his current health status unknown. The Civil Police have opened an investigation into the attempted robbery-homicide and are working to identify the perpetrators. Further inquiries regarding arrests, weapon recovery, and the motorcycle's retrieval have not yet yielded responses from the Civil or Military Police.
