Evidence Contradicts Suspect's Account in Elderly Woman's Murder Case in Paraná

Police in Paraná, Brazil, have indicted Elísio Basílio da Silva, 60, for the latrocínio (robbery followed by death) of Eulália Farias Pinheiro, 70. The investigation, led by Delegate Angélica Ferreira, found substantial evidence contradicting Silva's version of events. Silva claimed he and Pinheiro, with whom he allegedly had an extramarital affair, argued on a bridge over the Rio Tigre, leading to her accidental fall. However, witnesses reported Pinheiro was always with a specific, valuable bag, which disappeared. Furthermore, bloodstains were found in Silva's car, and approximately R$20,000 that Pinheiro withdrew before her disappearance remains unaccounted for. Police also uncovered that Silva approached Pinheiro under a false identity, posing as a service provider to gain her trust and access to her assets, suggesting a patrimonial motive. Pinheiro was last seen on June 15, traveling to Nova Londrina to purchase property, and her body was discovered a month later in an advanced state of decomposition, identified through dental records. Silva has been in preventive detention since July 22. The case, which began with a note and a prayer found among Pinheiro's belongings mentioning Silva, has been forwarded to the judiciary and public prosecutor's office.
