Family of four, including two children, killed in head-on collision in Goiás

A tragic head-on collision between a car and a truck on the GO-139 highway in Goiás, Brazil, resulted in the deaths of four individuals. The victims, traveling in the car, were identified as Elizene Moreira da Silva, 28 (stepmother), Davi Gonçalves Oliveira, 35 (father), Deivid Gonçalves Ferreira, 13 (son), and Thayla Izabelly Gomes de Souza, 6 (a friend). A young child, the daughter of the driver, was critically injured and received medical attention. The truck driver and his 5-year-old son, who were in the other vehicle, sustained minor injuries. The truck driver told police that the car was swerving and speeding before the collision. He also reported seeing beer cans inside the car. The driver remained at the scene and has been interviewed by authorities. The investigation is being treated as a vehicular homicide without intent to kill, but it is too early to assign blame to either driver. The stretch of highway where the accident occurred reportedly lacked horizontal and vertical signage due to recent roadwork, although authorities are investigating whether this contributed to the crash. The road infrastructure agency stated that warning signs were in place, including a temporary sign indicating a 40 km/h speed limit.
