Family Protests After Fatal Motorcycle-SUV Collision in Acre, Brazil

Family members of Robson Rodrigues da Silva, a 22-year-old motorcyclist who died after colliding with an SUV in Xapuri, Acre, Brazil, held a protest on Sunday, July 12th, demanding justice. The accident occurred on July 5th at the intersection of Rodovaldo Nogueira and 24 de Janeiro streets. According to his twin brother, Celson Rodrigues, the demonstration attracted approximately 120 participants, including family and friends, and proceeded from the Military Firefighters Battalion to the Calebe Nascimento Mota Youth Square. The family is seeking answers from authorities, stating that the occupants of the SUV allegedly left the scene and only later presented themselves at the police station with legal representation. Images from the protest show participants holding signs with messages such as "Cowardice to omit without rendering aid" and "He was a human being, he deserves respect." The police report was filed on July 6th. The victim's brother described the profound grief of their mother, who is deeply distressed by the circumstances of her son's death and the alleged failure to provide aid. Robson, who lived with and cared for his bedridden grandmother, reportedly attempted to swerve before the collision. The Military Police stated that the SUV driver fled the scene without assisting the victim, and witnesses were unable to identify the vehicle or its plate immediately. Firefighters attempted to revive Robson at the scene, but he was pronounced dead. The delegate investigating the case stated that the conclusion of the forensic report is pending, and information regarding alcohol consumption by the SUV occupants will not be released until the investigation is complete. The lawyer representing the SUV driver declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
