Fatal Truck Collision on BR-155 in Pará Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

A tragic accident involving three trucks occurred on Tuesday, May 28th, on the BR-155 highway near Sapucaia, in the southern region of Pará, Brazil. The collision, which happened close to the Rio Vermelho district, commonly known as "Gogó da Onça," resulted in one fatality and three injuries. The vehicles involved were a box truck carrying refrigerated goods, a semi-trailer loaded with grain, and an empty cattle truck. Daniel Saraiva Batista, the driver of the cattle truck, was trapped in the wreckage and died at the scene before rescue efforts could extract him. Three other individuals sustained injuries and were transported to the Sapucaia Municipal Hospital for treatment. Eyewitness accounts suggest the crash may have been caused by an improper overtaking maneuver. To avoid a head-on collision, the trucks reportedly collided sideways, also impacting the grain-laden semi-trailer. The BR-155 was completely blocked for several hours, leading to significant traffic congestion. A backhoe was required to clear the vehicles and reopen the roadway. Authorities are currently investigating the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.
