Four Dead in Head-On Collision on GO-139 in Goiás; Investigation Underway

A tragic head-on collision on the GO-139 highway in Goiás, Brazil, resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left one child in serious condition. The victims, identified as Elizene Moreira da Silva, 28, Davi Gonçalves Oliveira, 35, Davi's son Deivid Gonçalves Ferreira, 13, and a friend, Thayla Izabelly Gomes de Souza, 6, were traveling in a car that collided with a truck. According to a family member, Elizene's aunt Simone da Silva Almeida, the group was returning from a church service and planned to spend the final days of their vacation at Elizene's mother's home. An 8-year-old daughter of Davi, also in the car, survived but was critically injured. The truck driver and his 5-year-old son, who were in the other vehicle, sustained only minor injuries. The truck driver, who remained at the scene and later presented himself to the Civil Police, stated that the car was swerving and speeding. He reported seeing beer cans inside the car before the collision, which he attempted to avoid by swerving into the oncoming lane. The police are investigating the incident as a case of vehicular manslaughter, but the lead investigator, delegate Kennet Carvalho, emphasized that it is too early to assign blame to either driver. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
