French Woman Arrested After Discovery of Five Baby Remains in Home

A woman has been arrested in the South of France after the remains of five babies were discovered in her home in Orange. Prosecutors have launched an investigation into the murder of minors, according to French media reports. The discovery was made two days ago when the woman, reportedly suffering from denial of pregnancy, gave birth at home and was subsequently taken to the hospital. Her 32-year-old husband, allegedly shocked by the unexpected pregnancy, began searching the house and found the remains in boxes within a closet. He alerted the hospital, which then contacted the authorities. Preliminary investigations confirmed the findings to be bone fragments and a decomposing infant body. The 32-year-old woman was arrested shortly after her hospital discharge today. Her husband was also apprehended a few hours later, having previously stated he was unaware of his wife's pregnancies. The couple already has two young children. Denial of pregnancy is a condition where a woman is unaware she is pregnant, with minimal physical symptoms, occurring in approximately 1 in 500 pregnancies. Child protective services have been involved for the couple's two older children, and a children's court is reportedly overseeing the fate of the newborn son.
