George Clooney Evacuates French Home Amid Nearby Wildfire

Actor George Clooney and his family were compelled to evacuate their home in southeastern France due to a nearby wildfire. The actor's agent confirmed the news to the Associated Press on Thursday, July 30th. Clooney conveyed his concerns in a letter to Didier Bremond, the mayor of Brignoles, a town approximately 90 kilometers east of Marseille. In the letter, Clooney expressed uncertainty about the fate of their residence, stating, "we have no idea if our beautiful home will survive this terrible time, and as we evacuate Brignoles." He and his wife, Amal Clooney, emphasized their commitment to the community, pledging to participate in its reconstruction regardless of the outcome for their property. The wildfire near Brignoles ignited on Wednesday afternoon and consumed roughly 100 hectares (247 acres), according to local authorities. This fire was significantly smaller than the extensive blazes that recently impacted the Bordeaux region in southwestern France, where approximately 700 residents were evacuated and later allowed to return home. Firefighting helicopters remained active over the Brignoles area after the evacuation order was lifted, as unfavorable weather conditions, including high temperatures and anticipated strong winds, persisted. The Clooney family, including their twins Ella and Alexander, were granted French citizenship in December. They purchased their French estate in 2021, and George Clooney had previously described it as their primary residence in an October interview with "Esquire."
