Gunfire Erupts in Sumaré Mattress Store During Alleged Robbery Attempt, Two Injured

A shootout occurred on Tuesday afternoon, October 7th, at a mattress store on Avenida Rebouças in Sumaré, São Paulo, resulting in two men being injured. According to the Military Police (PM), the incident began when a suspect allegedly attempted to rob the establishment around 12 PM. Store employees noticed the suspect's actions, took cover on the floor, and contacted the police. However, the store's owner, who is a registered CAC (Collector, Sports Shooter, and Hunter), reacted to the robbery with his legally owned firearm, leading to a gun exchange. The owner sustained a hand injury and was taken to the Macarenko neighborhood's UPA, where he is reported to be recovering well. The suspect was hit by three shots and transported to the Sumaré State Hospital (HES). Preliminary information received by the PM suggested the suspect had died, though confirmation was pending from the hospital at the time of reporting. The incident was being processed by the Civil Police, with the case still active. Authorities also indicated a second suspect may have been involved, waiting outside on a motorcycle to flee with stolen goods. This individual reportedly escaped on the motorcycle, driving against traffic, and evaded a pursuing police vehicle. Police intend to conduct further investigations to locate and identify this second suspect.
