Hilux involved in fatal crash belongs to former Caxias mayor; he was not driving

A Toyota Hilux involved in a fatal collision on BR-316 in Maranhão, Brazil, belongs to Fábio José Gentil Pereira Rosa, the former mayor of Caxias. The accident, which occurred on July 11th, resulted in the deaths of singer Jéssica Costa and Edmilson Pereira de Castro, who were traveling in a Classic car. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF) expert report, Fábio Gentil was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The Hilux was being driven by a chauffeur employed by the former mayor, with another passenger. The PRF report contradicts initial accounts, stating the Hilux was traveling normally in its lane without excessive speed. The primary cause of the accident was determined to be the abrupt entry of the Classic car into the Hilux's path as it attempted a left turn across the highway from the shoulder. Edmilson Pereira de Castro, who was in the back of the Classic without a seatbelt, was ejected and died at the scene. Jéssica Costa was trapped in the wreckage and later died from her injuries at the Hospital de Urgência de Teresina (HUT). The collision also involved a Fiat Uno, which was struck by the Classic's detached trailer. The Hilux driver, who was reportedly injured and tested negative for alcohol, remained at the scene and received medical attention. Jéssica Costa, originally from Maranhão, was a singer who also sold nuts and is survived by four children.
