Horse Rescued After Falling Into Manhole in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

A horse named Paçoca required rescue after falling into a manhole in Passo Fundo, in the northern region of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil, on Saturday afternoon, May 18th. The incident occurred as the owner, 18-year-old Gabryel da Silva dos Santos, and a friend were en route to a long-rope roping training session, an equestrian sport. According to Gabryel's account, his friend was leading Paçoca while Gabryel rode another horse. At one point during their journey, Paçoca fell into an open manhole and became trapped. Gabryel expressed uncertainty about whether his horse became disoriented or if his friend failed to notice the opening. Paçoca remained stuck for approximately 40 minutes. The young men contacted the fire department, but they also arranged for a tow truck, which successfully removed the animal from the hole. Despite the frightening ordeal, the injuries sustained were minor. Paçoca suffered some wounds on his hind legs, but they were not serious. Gabryel's friend also sustained an injury during the incident, receiving a cut on his leg. Both the horse and the friend have since recovered, according to Gabryel, who stated that Paçoca is now well and only had minor injuries. The local fire department in Passo Fundo was contacted by the press but had not responded by the time of publication.
