Iguá Sergipe Inaugurates New Water Main and Reservoirs in Agreste Region

Iguá Sergipe has completed emergency upgrades to its water supply system in Moita Bonita and Itabaiana, located in the Agreste region of Sergipe state. These improvements aim to enhance water security, regularity, and supply autonomy for over 15,000 residents. A 10-kilometer water main was installed between Moita Bonita and Itabaiana, representing an investment of R$ 5.7 million and benefiting more than 11,000 people in that specific area. Additionally, Itabaiana received approximately R$ 2.6 million for the construction of two 200m³ storage reservoirs, which will serve over 4,000 inhabitants. The water main project commenced in March 2025, coinciding with the assisted operation phase and a broader plan for four emergency water supply projects across the interior of Sergipe, including Poço Redondo, Porto da Folha, Riachão do Dantas, and Lagarto. These initiatives are designed to strengthen regional water systems and improve living conditions for the state's residents. Fernando Vieira, General Director of Iguá Sergipe, stated that these interventions were initiated during the concession's assisted operation phase due to the urgent need to address critical water shortages affecting local families. He emphasized that each project is tailored to specific local requirements, with the overarching goal of ensuring consistent water supply. Iguá Sergipe is responsible for water supply and sewage services in the state under a partial concession, with a long-term investment plan impacting over 2 million people across its 35-year contract. The company, Iguá Saneamento, is a major private sanitation provider in Brazil, operating in six states and serving approximately 6 million people through various concessions and public-private partnerships, with a commitment to universalizing basic sanitation, operational efficiency, and positive socio-environmental impact.
