Illiterate Retiree Spreads Faith and Bible Verses in Fernando de Noronha

Cláudio Roberto Gomes, a 67-year-old retiree known as Seu Jubileu, has been dedicating over 20 years to evangelism in Fernando de Noronha, despite being unable to read or write. He distributes approximately 3,000 religious leaflets monthly, which he calls "literature," and recites Bible verses from memory to residents and tourists. Seu Jubileu believes he is a messenger of God, stating that the verses come to him directly from divine inspiration. He has been an evangelical for 36 years and lives on a minimum wage, residing in a friend's home. Local residents and visitors provide financial assistance for printing the leaflets, ensuring he never lacks funds for his mission. He expresses immense joy when distributing this material. Although he attended school for eight years, he never learned to read, but this has not hindered his evangelistic work. He often recites passages like Isaiah 54:17 to those he encounters. Tourists and locals have expressed surprise and appreciation for his dedication, with some describing his work as important, beautiful, and a source of comfort during difficult times. One visitor, a retired teacher, was so impressed by his memory and dedication that she considered him to have a brilliant mind. Seu Jubileu intends to continue his mission, traversing streets, squares, beaches, and businesses daily to share his faith.
