Institute Intensifies Winter Soup Distribution in Mogi das Cruzes

The Instituto SOPA Dona Odette is increasing its distribution of food and clothing to vulnerable individuals in Mogi das Cruzes during the winter months. While the initiative operates year-round, it receives additional support during colder weather. This non-profit organization, with over 40 years of operation, relies on approximately 100 volunteers to serve around 2,500 vulnerable people in the city. Additionally, 650 registered families receive essential items like food baskets and layettes.

Soup is served three times weekly across various city districts, with over 96,000 liters distributed last year alone. Volunteers are crucial for both preparing and delivering the meals. Despite challenges like rain and cold temperatures, exemplified by a 12°C evening with rain, volunteers like Daniel Bueno Lima and Marco Aurélio Amorim emphasize the necessity of their work, noting that many depend on these distributions. The menu on such occasions includes hearty meals like pasta with vegetables and meat, accompanied by bread and dessert. The institute's commitment is unwavering, operating through holidays and ensuring continuous service due to its dedicated volunteer base, with individuals like Janete dos Santos expressing gratitude for the warm, filling meals provided.
