Jeepers Creepers Fan Arrested in Brazil for Scaring Residents While in Costume

An electrician from Pernambuco, Brazil, named Elivaldo Ribeiro de Sales, 42, gained viral fame after dressing as the Creeper character from the 'Jeepers Creepers' horror franchise and frightening local residents. Sales, known as Uchôa, stated he has been a fan of the films since childhood and never anticipated his prank would gain such widespread attention. Videos of his appearance led some residents to believe a werewolf was roaming the streets at night, prompting them to report the incidents to the Military Police. On Wednesday, April 1st, police located Sales, who provided a statement and was issued a Minor Offense Report (TCO) for disturbing public order and tranquility. The police noted that Sales' costume led residents to associate the figure with a werewolf. Sales explained that his passion for the horror franchise inspired the costume, recalling childhood viewings with his nephews. He also mentioned being part of a fan club for the film's director, Victor Salva. The Creeper character in the 'Jeepers Creepers' franchise is a demonic creature that awakens every 23 years to hunt humans for sustenance, with the first film released in 2001 and the latest in 2022. Sales' costume was partly inspired by his everyday work attire; his rain gear, consisting of a cape and hat, already led some locals to compare him to the character. He purchased a mask to complete the Creeper look for the video, which he planned to post on social media. He asked a few people to wait before entering the street during filming to maintain the illusion. While some individuals were indeed scared, Sales believes rumors circulating after the video's release amplified the fear. He expressed surprise at the viral reaction and denied any intention to harm or upset anyone, stating the video was meant for his online channels. Despite the attention, Sales affirmed he will continue his electrical work, noting that safety equipment is essential for his profession. The costume has since become a point of curiosity, with local children often asking to take photos with him.
