LGBTQIA+ Couples Can Register for Community Wedding in Maranhão Until August 27

LGBTQIA+ couples across Maranhão, Brazil, have until August 27 to register for the third edition of the LGBTQIA+ Community Wedding. The ceremony is scheduled for September 4 at 4 PM and will accommodate 50 couples. Couples from São Luís will attend in person at the headquarters of the Association of Magistrates of Maranhão (AMMA), while those from other municipalities will participate virtually via videoconference. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the qualification process varies by municipality. This initiative is regulated by Portaria nº 123/2026 from the General Inspectorate of the Non-Judicial Court of Maranhão (Cogex) and is supported by the Diversity Committee of the Court of Justice of Maranhão (TJ-MA). In São Luís, registration occurs at two accredited civil registry offices. Couples in other cities must register at their local civil registry office to begin the qualification process. On the day of the ceremony, participants from outside São Luís will join via videoconference from their registered notary office or local court. Required documents for each individual include birth certificates (or divorce decrees/death certificates for divorced/widowed individuals), parental consent if under 18, a photo ID, CPF, proof of residence, a written declaration of intent to marry, a contact phone number, and details for two witnesses.
