Man Arrested After Ramming Guard During Illegal Gathering Operation in Limeira

A man was arrested early Sunday morning, May 19th, in Limeira, São Paulo, after intentionally hitting a municipal guard with his car during an operation to disperse an illegal gathering, known as a 'pancadão'. The operation, involving the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) and the Municipal Ostensive Patrol (Romu), aimed to prevent public disturbance and manage traffic at the event in the Belinha Ometto neighborhood, which had gathered approximately 200 people. As officers began dispersing the crowd, some individuals became hostile, throwing objects and bottles at the guards, who responded with non-lethal ammunition. During traffic control measures, a car ignored orders to stop and drove towards a guard, causing a fractured elbow, and also ran over another officer's foot. The GCM fired shots at the vehicle, and the driver sustained a gunshot wound but managed to escape. The car was later found abandoned, showing bullet marks and blood inside, along with alcoholic beverage bottles. Authorities located the occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, in another car. The driver, who had a chest wound from a gunshot, showed signs of intoxication but refused breathalyzer and blood tests. He lacked a driver's license. A teenager also came forward, admitting to being in the car that struck the guard. The vehicle was seized, and the case is being investigated by the Civil Police for disobedience and bodily harm resulting from police intervention.
