Man Arrested for Allegedly Strangling, Assaulting Partner at Her Birthday Party in Brazil

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her partner during her birthday celebration in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, Brazil, on Sunday, August 2. The suspect was arrested in flagrante delicto for bodily injury in the context of domestic violence, threat, home invasion, and property damage. According to the Military Police, the man reportedly attempted to strangle the victim, made death threats, and forcibly entered her apartment after breaking down the door. The couple had been in a stable union for approximately two weeks. The victim stated that after returning home from a birthday dinner with her children and partner, he began verbally abusing her and attempted to strangle her by grabbing her neck. She managed to break free by pushing him away in self-defense. Later that night, the suspect organized a surprise birthday party for the victim at the apartment. During the party, after consuming more alcohol, he allegedly became aggressive, slapping a friend of the victim and throwing a beer can at her when the victim intervened. The victim asked him to leave, but he allegedly remained outside, attempting to break down the door while issuing further threats. He eventually gained entry and again grabbed her by the neck, continuing to insult her. The victim contacted the Military Police, who found the suspect within the condominium. She sustained injuries to her neck and left arm, while the suspect had scratches on his face, abrasions, and an eye injury. The case is under investigation by the Civil Police.
