Man Arrested in Florianópolis for Homophobic Attack and Robbery

Authorities in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, have arrested a suspect in connection with a violent homophobic assault and robbery that occurred approximately one month ago. The incident took place on June 22nd near Praia das Palmeiras, where the victim, a vendor, was walking along the shore. He was reportedly cornered by six unknown individuals, beaten, and robbed. The arrested suspect's identity has not been disclosed. The arrest was part of a joint operation by the Civil and Military Police. At the time of reporting, authorities were still searching for a second individual and had executed four search and seizure warrants. The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, described being approached by a group of five younger individuals, possibly students under 18, followed by an older man who confronted him aggressively. The older man allegedly made homophobic remarks, referring to the victim as "gayzinho" before the group attacked, punching him in the face and ribs. The victim stated the attackers threatened his life, saying, "prepare that you will die, prepare to be beaten." He was subsequently taken to a UPA (Emergency Care Unit) for treatment. During Wednesday's operation, police seized items relevant to the investigation, and efforts continue to locate the second suspect and execute remaining warrants.
