Man Convicted of Fatal Shooting in DF Auto Shop Gets 4-Year Open Sentence

André Luiz Rodrigues, 23, has been sentenced to four years in prison under an open regime for the fatal shooting of Lucas Henrique Prado, 35. The incident occurred in April 2025 at a mechanic's workshop in Guará, Distrito Federal. According to witnesses, Prado accidentally struck the mirror of another vehicle while leaving the workshop. This reportedly provoked Rodrigues, the son of the workshop owner, who then retrieved a firearm and shot Prado. Prado was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Rodrigues will be permitted to await the commencement of his sentence while free. The jury initially opted for a six-year minimum sentence but reduced it by one-third due to the crime being classified as a "privileged homicide." This classification applies when a perpetrator acts out of significant social or moral value or under intense emotional distress following an unjust provocation by the victim. Prado, an app-based driver, had taken his car to the workshop due to a mechanical issue on March 21, 2025. Initial police reports suggested a robbery followed by a shooting, with Rodrigues claiming Prado attempted to rob him. The firearm, belonging to Rodrigues's father, and 13 rounds of ammunition were seized. Prado's father described his son as a hardworking individual and not a criminal, emphasizing his role as a provider for his seven-year-old son. Prado sustained a gunshot wound to the chin, which traversed his neck, damaging two arteries. He remained hospitalized for 14 days, undergoing four surgeries before his death.
