Man Dies After Police Intervention in São José dos Campos; Four Firearms Seized

A man died following a police intervention on Friday night, November 24th, in the Campo dos Alemães neighborhood, located in the southern zone of São José dos Campos. According to the official report, military police officers stated that the individual allegedly pointed a firearm at the team during a stop. As the police approached a car parked on the public street with its headlights on and the driver's window open, one officer reported seeing the occupant aim a weapon towards their patrol vehicle. The officers then fired shots to neutralize the perceived threat, as detailed in the police report. After the intervention, they approached the car and called for emergency medical services. The man received medical attention but was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:47 PM. During the incident, four firearms were found inside the vehicle: two .380 caliber pistols, a 12-gauge shotgun, and a homemade submachine gun. Various ammunition types and a crowbar were also confiscated and will undergo forensic examination. The Civil Police have requested an inspection of the scene, the seized weapons, and the firearms used by the military police officers. A necropsy has also been ordered from the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The case has been registered at the Judicial Police Center (CPJ) of São José dos Campos, where the investigating delegate has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances of the event, noting the preliminary hypothesis of self-defense based on the officers' statements.
