Man Dies in Cariacica House Fire; Blaze May Have Started with Wood Stove

A 38-year-old man, identified as Giovane Paulo da Conceição do Nascimento, died after his house caught fire on Friday night in the Dom Bosco neighborhood of Cariacica, located in Greater Vitória. His body was found completely carbonized inside the residence, near a window on a sofa. Firefighters responded to the scene on Rua Nestor Vieira, where they battled flames that had already consumed about 70% of the property, with the roof and most walls having collapsed. The scientific police were called to conduct an investigation. A woman informed authorities that the victim was her stepfather and that two minor children, a 10-year-old boy and a 13-year-old named Paulo Vitor, lived with him. The younger boy was located, but the whereabouts of the 13-year-old were unknown at the time of the incident. Neighbors reported that the house had a wood-burning stove, which the victim reportedly used for cooking, and that this may have been the origin of the fire. They speculated that he might have forgotten a pot on the stove. Residents attempted to help fight the fire with limited resources, but the blaze was too intense. Firefighters confirmed no other bodies were found in the house after their inspection. The body was removed by the scientific police after the scene was cleared, and authorities are investigating the case.
