Man Fatally Shot After Stabbing Young Man During Store Dispute in Hortolândia

A 40-year-old man was fatally shot inside a computer store on Rua Armelinda Espúrio da Silva in Hortolândia, São Paulo, on Tuesday afternoon, May 4th. According to the Civil Police, the deceased, identified as Victor Hugo de Almeida, a resident of Campinas, allegedly arrived at the establishment agitated and initiated a dispute over a product. During the altercation, a 20-year-old young man, Davi de Almeida, was stabbed. Davi's father, who was also present in the store, then drew a firearm and shot Victor Hugo. Davi sought medical attention for his stab wounds independently at the UPA in Jardim Rosolém. The father of the victim has not yet been located and is being sought by the Civil Police. Municipal Guards were alerted after Davi arrived at the health unit and were informed by the young man that another victim was involved. Officers subsequently found Victor Hugo deceased outside the establishment. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) confirmed his death at the scene. In his statement to the police, Davi asserted that his father acted in defense of himself, constituting legitimate defense of a third party. The Civil Police stated this claim will be thoroughly examined through witness testimonies, available surveillance footage, and forensic reports. The incident has been registered as completed homicide and attempted homicide at the Hortolândia Police Station.
