Man Sentenced to Over 9 Years for Attempted Femicide in Paço do Lumiar

Ramone Soares Martins has been sentenced to 9 years and 4 months in prison for the attempted femicide of his ex-girlfriend in Paço do Lumiar, located in the Greater São Luís region. The crime occurred on February 2, 2020, when Martins allegedly invaded the victim's residence with the intent to kill. He attacked her with a knife, inflicting approximately 19 wounds. The conviction was handed down on Tuesday, July 21, during a jury trial presided over by Judge Frederico Feitosa at the Criminal Court of Paço do Lumiar. The victim had ended a two-month relationship with Martins, who reportedly began frequently threatening her, stating she would not be with anyone else if she wasn't with him. According to the prosecution, Martins scaled a wall to enter the victim's home on the night of the attack. A witness present at the time testified to the events. Martins allegedly attacked the victim with a knife in her bedroom, delivering 19 blows before being interrupted by the witness's cries for help, after which he fled. Judge Feitosa denied Martins the right to appeal his sentence while out of custody, citing the necessity of preventive detention to ensure the law is applied and noting the contradiction of releasing a defendant convicted of a lengthy prison sentence. Martins is required to serve his sentence initially under a closed regime.
