Montes Claros Hosts Inaugural Animal Welfare Walk

The Municipality of Montes Claros, through its Secretariat of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainability, organized the first edition of the Animal Welfare Walk. This event was a collaborative effort with the Municipal Council for Environmental Defense and Conservation and Animal Life Protection (CODEMA). The primary goal was to raise public awareness regarding the significance of respecting and caring for animals. The activities included a "Walk along the Lagoon Shore," contests for "Biggest Dog," "Smallest Dog," and "Dog Most Like its Owner." Additionally, there was a presentation by Apolo, a dog from the Canine Operations Group (GOC) of the Penal Police, and an "Adoption Fair" featuring the NGOs Guardiões da Causa Animal and Amigos Patinhas de Rua. The Mayor of Montes Claros, Guilherme Guimarães, reiterated the Municipality's dedication to prioritizing animal welfare. The Secretary of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainability, Fabiano Oliveira, emphasized that the walk aimed to raise awareness about animal mistreatment and promote responsible pet ownership and adoption, encouraging family involvement. Participants were required to keep dogs on leashes, with specific breeds like pit bulls and their derivatives needing to wear muzzles. The event was part of the Environment Week program and was open to the public, drawing a large crowd of both dogs and people to the Municipal Park.
