Mozambique's Minister: Economic Independence is the Nation's New Challenge

Mozambique's Minister of State Administration and Public Function, Inocêncio Impissa, stated that the 51st anniversary of National Independence is a time to acknowledge past achievements and reflect on future challenges. He emphasized that the 51 years since 1975 symbolize the dignity, identity, and heroism of the Mozambican people, alongside their ongoing struggle for development and national sovereignty. Impissa highlighted that these years represent numerous accomplishments and a fight against obstacles hindering the country's progress.

With a new governance cycle beginning, Impissa identified economic independence as the primary challenge, distinct from the earlier fight for liberation. He asserted that the political and territorial independence secured over five decades ago must be bolstered by a robust economy capable of generating wealth and improving citizens' living standards. The minister stressed that the current national objective extends beyond political independence to achieving economic self-sufficiency, which should guide all Mozambicans. Consolidating economic independence is deemed crucial for sustainable development and reinforcing the gains made since the nation's independence was proclaimed. These remarks were made during the June 25th celebrations marking Mozambique's 51st Independence anniversary.
