Nationwide Alert Issued for Police Vehicles as Potential Attack Targets

Bangladesh Police Headquarters has issued a nationwide alert, warning that vehicles used by the police may become targets of attacks. All field units have been instructed to immediately strengthen security measures. The directive was sent via an urgent message from the Operations Control Room of the Police Headquarters on Saturday. Based on intelligence indicating potential attacks on various police vehicles, including jeeps, pickups, and buses, maximum vigilance is required to ensure safety. If a vehicle needs to be stopped while on duty, it should be parked in a secure location. Additionally, instructions have been given to enhance the security of all government vehicles parked at police stations, police lines, office compounds, or other designated areas after duty. This includes regular patrols, necessary surveillance, and heightened caution to detect suspicious individuals or objects in these locations. Any suspicious activity must be immediately reported to higher authorities. This alert follows recent incidents, including the discovery of a bomb inside an umbrella near the Motijheel Metro Rail Station on July 24, and a subsequent scare involving a bag with an umbrella protruding from it near the Bangladesh Bank the following day. More recently, on Saturday afternoon, a suspicious bag was found on the second floor of the Mirpur-10 Metro Station, and another suspicious bag was discovered near a pillar at the Farmgate Metro Station. While police bomb disposal units investigated these finds, they determined that no explosives were present. Police Headquarters stated that these events prompted the issuance of the current security advisory. A police spokesperson confirmed that such directives are periodically issued to ensure security and keep police personnel active and alert, emphasizing that there is no cause for panic.
