Off-duty officer shoots two men during prank robbery attempt in São Paulo

An off-duty civil police officer shot two men on Monday afternoon, May 13th, in São Paulo's Leste Zone, specifically at Avenida Sapopemba, 392. The incident occurred when the two men, employees of a car wash that services the car dealership, staged a fake robbery attempt at the dealership. They arrived on a motorcycle, and one of them simulated having a firearm while announcing the supposed robbery. The off-duty officer, present at the scene, reacted to the perceived threat, believing they were armed, and fired his weapon, hitting both individuals. It was later discovered that the men were known to the dealership's employees and that their actions were intended as a prank, a fact unknown to the officer at the time. Following the shooting, the officer immediately contacted police operations, requested emergency medical services (SAMU), and provided initial aid until paramedics arrived. Both victims were conscious and communicative when taken to the hospital; one sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, and the other to the abdomen. The officer was unharmed. The incident was reported to the 42nd Precinct, and the scene was secured for forensic investigation. A police inquiry will be conducted to determine the full circumstances of the event.
