Paraty Police Operation Leads to Drug Seizure After Shootout

An intense exchange of gunfire between suspected drug traffickers and police officers occurred on Thursday, May 9th, in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, as part of Operation Impacto. This operation specifically targets the illicit drug trade and the seizure of illegal weapons and materials. The initial phase took place in the Ilha das Cobras neighborhood, where a substantial quantity of drugs was confiscated and sent to the police station for cataloging. Subsequently, in the Condado neighborhood, officers encountered armed suspects, one of whom had an active arrest warrant. Upon detecting the police, the suspects opened fire on an unmarked police vehicle, prompting officers to return fire. During the confrontation, the police vehicle sustained damage from a bullet that punctured one of its tires. Authorities recovered a pistol magazine with six live rounds and numerous shell casings at the scene. The suspects managed to escape. The police also reported seizing a pistol magazine, six bullets, 17 portions of hashish, 39 portions of marijuana flower, 126 small bags of cocaine, 135 marijuana sticks, 260 vials of loló, and 291 rocks of crack cocaine in the Condado neighborhood. All seized items have been transferred to the Paraty police station, which is overseeing the ongoing investigation. As of the report's publication, no arrests had been made.
